Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) was established as a public higher educational institution upon Decree No. 539 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, dated November 29, 2011 “On making changes in the structure of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
BHOS was set up to meet growing needs of SOCAR, which is expanding its activities in Azerbaijan and abroad, and other industries in the country for highly qualified engineers trained in accordance with modern curricula and with the use of the latest education technologies, and having an advanced level of English.
During the past period BHOS has managed to create its own infrastructure complying with contemporary requirements and formed administrative and lecturers' staff. The university has implemented a series of motivating and mobilizing measures to increase the motivation of the teaching staff in teaching and students in education.
Cooperation with local and foreign companies, organisation of regular trainings and lectures by professionals, high results shown by students in education and various social projects, the trust gained among the public in a short time, and other such achievements attract the most intelligent youth of Azerbaijan to study at BHOS.
Since its establishment, BHOS has become the most prestigious higher education institution and a leader in the training of professional engineers in Azerbaijan. BHOS students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical training. Thus, students participate in summer internships and practical training held at the relevant production enterprises and facilities of companies such as SOCAR, BP, Statoil, Total, Schlumberger, ABB, Halliburton, Atenau Ltd, Schneider Electric, Microsoft, Baker Hughes, Confidence Capital, Emerson Process Management, Avandsis Group, Maire Tecnimont, Control Measuring Devices and Automation LLC, Petkim, STAR (Turkey). This provides great opportunities for students to establish effective relationships with leading industry experts, grow as world-class specailists, gain employment and build a successful career.

SIYAVUSH AZAKOV
Dr. Siyavush Azakov is a Professor of the Petroleum Engineering Department of Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) from September 2013. He gives lectures on different branches of physics for undergraduate and graduate students at BHOS. Mr. Azakov graduated Peoples Friendship University (Moscow, USSR) in 1971 and got his PhD degree in 1975 from Steklov Mathematical Institute of Academy of Sciences of the USSR. From 1976 to 1980, he continued his research in the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia) and in the Department of quantum field theory of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR.
From 1975 to 2008 he was a researcher at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. Since 1987, for twelve years, Mr. Azakov has been invited almost annually to the International Center for Theoretical Physics (Trieste, Italy) and to the University of Pisa (Italy) for doing research and lecturing. From 1989 to 2001, he was regularly invited to the theoretical group of the DESY Research Center (Hamburg, Germany) to conduct joint research. From 1993 to 1997, he worked as a visiting professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies (Zanjan, Iran), where he lectured for graduate and post graduate students and conducted research. From 1998 to 2000, having received a NATO grant, he was engaged in scientific research at Hacettepe University (Ankara, Turkey). Mr. Azakov worked as a Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and a lecturer at Khazar University (Baku, Azerbaijan) from September 2011 till September 2013. He participated in several projects of FP6, FP7, Erasmus+ and Tempus Programmes.
Mr. Azakov has published about 60 scientific articles in international refereed journals and two monographs.
FARAD KAMYABI
Farad Kamyabi is the director of Center for Innovation and Research in Baku Higher Oil School and also an experienced Reservoir Engineer. He has been lecturing Reservoir Engineering and Reservoir Simulation courses in Baku Higher Oil School since 2015. He was also an off-campus lecturer of Heriot-Watt University in the period of 2015-2020.
Farad has carried out and published several research studies and projects on Environment and Sustainability, Geothermal Reservoir Simulation, and Green Technologies. He has also completed several projects related to subsurface energy resources. He also supervises several startups related to green technologies and energy efficiency, among which Biofactant, EopSIL, CCU could be mentioned.
